Frances Loom Founder Kelly Vittengl on How to Style Vintage Rugs
In addition to the incredible rugs she curates, Kelly Vittengl, founder of Frances Loom also has an amazing eye for design. We always love the way she styles her rugs, so we asked her to let us in on her secrets. "One of the best qualities in a vintage rug is the authentic, worn look. Those little imperfections tell a story, instantly filling a room with character and rich history," Kelly says. Read on for how Kelly would style her rugs by room and to shop the entire Frances Loom x Lulu and Georgia collaboration.
Soft, vintage linens and moody dark hues
"A large rug brings everything together and creates a unified, relaxing living space. As they’re soft underfoot and comfortable to sit on, they’re particularly good for families with small children or for those with large rooms in need of some real character and warmth."
Light fabrics mixed with rich, darker velvets and natural wood
"Medium rugs work well in practically any space, from nurseries and offices to layering in a living room, and everything in between. You can truly mix, match and experiment - for instance, multiple rugs placed alongside each other can look amazing and completely unique."
Pops of metallic gold and traditional dark wood grain pieces
"I want people to know that they can use rugs that aren’t perfect; rugs that have moth holes, frayed borders, lots of wear, uneven color… typically, this would lower the value of a rug, but for me, these are the characteristics I’m most drawn to."
