Our Restorative Bedroom Refresh Guide
Our bedrooms are meant to support us, not only our sleeping habits but for all of our daily rituals to start our mornings and unwind before bed. As we have had to balance our home, work, and social lives this past year, these spaces have become even more important. With the arrival of spring, update with lighter-weight bedding, curtains, and richly-colored throw pillows. Or, go bold with a full bedroom refresh—not only imagining but finally creating the plush, meditative bedroom of your dreams. So, we asked our Creative Director, Jenna Kincaid, about her favorite bedroom styling tips. From where to start when designing your bedroom (hint: start with your bed!) to adding natural textures into your space to utilizing a refined and artful storage piece, read on for more inspiration.
Start with your focal point, the bed itself
The first step, of course, is selecting and centering your bed within your room's style. Along with its ability to tie the space together, your bed frame also allows you to add a burst of rich, distinctive color or showcase eye-catching forms and materiality. A piece like the Valen Platform Bed beautifully blends its exaggerated frame with its Belgian linen upholstery in a golden wheat shade. The use of negative space between the frame's subtle winged detail and the Kono Nightstand works emphasizes each piece's unique profile. Similarly, the mixture of bedside textures—linen, wool, boucle, and wood—provides rich tactile and visual impact.
Layer in tonal texture and pattern
A bedroom does not need much decoration if everything is a statement piece and everything serves a purpose. Using your bed as a reference point, make use of a soft, tonal color palette and in this case, think muted earth tones, beige, and white. Introduce a wall treatment for additional visual appeal, like this Alina Wallpaper. Stylish, abstract waves soothingly ripple to layer in a soft pattern. Tactile accents like a bouclé-wrapped bench, mohair throw, and viscose rug complete the look.
Create an artful storage moment
When it comes to bedroom storage, be very intentional with your decision. Choose a roomy and functional option, but we suggest also curating with a few accent pieces that highlight the dresser's beauty. Highlight the furniture piece's best characteristics, such as a striking curved silhouette and light honey oak finish of the Kono Dresser here. The graceful, earthy geometrics of the Jillian Rug and abstract linear pattern of the 'Comfort' Print let you create a vignette, and greenery adds lush life to your space.
