It’s always a good feeling when a new season rolls around. What are some of your tips to refresh your house for each season?
I love to approach each season with a purge of anything that no longer serves a purpose for me. I find it to be the perfect time to toss anything that is worn out and bring in new pieces that makes your space feel alive again. There is a freshness that comes with the start of a new season, so I like to carry that inside and add some new plants, a lot of fresh flowers and a new scent.
Your home has so many well curated items and layers to it. Tell us a little about how you achieve that look.
I like to take my time sourcing unique pieces. It is so fun to discover new art, a cool lamp or a great accent like a vase that bring a lot of character to a room. That curated look also comes from not sticking to a specific style. I love a mix of everything, a rustic bowl on a clean marble table - it’s that layering of different styles and textures that brings a room to life.
You’re always changing the look up a bit in your spaces it seems. When do you feel completely satisfied with a room?
I don’t think I ever have felt completely satisfied with a room. When you’re so immersed in the design world you are always discovering new things. I like to think of my own apartment as a bit of testing space to see what works and what doesn’t. It is a place for me to play with colors and patterns and experiment with vignettes. I have so much fun changing things up and I always tell people you can work with what you have. If you’re bored of a room trying moving around your lighting and restyling a table or shelf.
What are a few design trends you are loving for Spring?
Woven accents! I am loving all of the beautiful cane pieces that are out right now. They bring such a cool factor to a space. I also love the plethora of gorgeous ceramics that I am seeing. Something as small as a beautiful ceramic bud vase or bowl can bring a lot of life to a vignette.
What are some items that you think are crucial to pulling together a space?
It depends on the room, but I think the nuance details make all the difference. I used to bypass nice lighting and now found a lamp can serve so much more than just function. I also think a great area rug can serve as the anchor of a room and really set the tone for how it looks.
Let’s talk spring cleaning. What’s your process?
I mentioned purging which is where I start my cleaning process. I go through the linen closet and get rid of any old towels, bedding and junk that I don’t need to hold on to. Getting rid of unnecessary clutter helps create a clean slate for adding in new pieces like a brighter rug, new bedding and lighter accents.
What are some small, budget friendly updates for those looking to refresh?
Something as simple as changing out a few pillows on your sofa can help make the room look different and seasonally appropriate. Adding in lightweight linen drapery can be inexpensive and makes a room look so breezy and fresh. Other things I like to do are incorporate a fun new piece of art and a few small decorative accents I can use to restyle my nightstands and living room console table!
