A Summer to Fall Transition
As the days slowly get shorter and the mornings get a little chillier, one thing is clear; it’s almost fall. The colder weather invites a sense of coziness into the home, and the airy linens and sunny colors of summer suddenly seem slightly out of place. Making the transition from warm summer to cozy fall can take a little work, but with the right ideas, the transition can be effortless. From swapping out textiles to updating the color palette, read on below for my tips to bring the season home.

I’m calling it here: one of the top colors for fall this year is flax. This textural, rich, warm hue is showing up everywhere, from the bedroom to the living room. Our Paxton Slipcover Bed sports this taupey, clay hue as well as our Portola Sofa, shown above. Adding in creamy accents in the textiles (like our newest Noemi Rug) and crisp black sculptural pieces provide a beautiful backdrop to fall’s new favorite hue.
Update Bed Linens to Cozier Tones
Consider replacing the fresh white linen sheets of summer to thicker, cozier blankets and pillows in darker shades. A handknit blanket like our Olema Throw provides a chunky, textural tone to the overall bedroom while the lovely stone color of our Matelasseé Coverlet keeps the overall contrast from becoming too sharp. Just swapping out a few bed coverings can change the tone in the bedroom from a light crisp summery feel, to a warm cozy autumnal feeling.
Bring Nature In
Whether a foraged sprig of greenery or a full-on tree, bringing nature inside can add to the texture of a space, as well as add some much needed color. As the weather gets cooler and trees lose their leaves, the organic, asymmetrical shape of twigs and branches add interest and contrast to a space. Our Pazice Vintage Wooden Vessel is the perfect vase for any type of arrangement, and looks great in any room.
Dim the Lights
There’s nothing like curling up with a good book or warm cup of tea in a candle-lit space or next to a warm fire. Whether a pillar candle like the one above, or a potted candle like our Norden Idyllwild Candle, romantic lighting updates the mood in any space.
Dig in to comfort food favorites in a space meant to be shared. Update the dining area by tossing a fur throw, like our Vale Icelandic Sheepskin, over a couple chairs. A large bowl can house a seasonal display of fruit, and then later, a festive holiday arrangement. Finally, a new set of table linens in a darker shade or heftier fabric is a simple update that can update the overall feel of any table setting.
