A rug often serves as the grounding influence in a space, drawing other décor elements in a room together with color, texture and pattern. An area rug is a good place to start when building out your room design. Bring in a rug with muted, neutral hues as a base for all things quiet and calm. Choose a shaggy Moroccan rug for cozy, inviting appeal that’s soft underfoot. For warm, authentic style, pick a vintage rug; rich with character and history.
At Lulu and Georgia, we have a curated collection of rugs that will give your home both elevated style and individual personality. Not sure what size or style of area rug to choose for your home? Don’t worry, we have you covered. Check out a few rug buying tips below.
When deciding on a rug, consider the space. In general, bigger is usually better when it comes to rug size. A large area rug for your living, dining room or office acts as an anchor, and makes a room feel cozy and conversational. If a rug is too small, a room can often feel bare and disconnected. Living room area rugs should fit under all of the main pieces of furniture in a room, or at the very least under the front legs.
For bedrooms, try an 8’x10’ or 9’x12’ sized rug, or place two smaller floor rugs on each side of the bed for soft texture and visual interest. In a hallway, or galley kitchen a runner rug adds depth and movement to a space, keeping it from feeling too narrow or flat.
When choosing a rug for a bathroom, consider a smaller 2’x3’ or 3’x5’ rug that can add softness as well as a patterned design. In larger bathrooms that have more space, find a runner or two smaller rugs in front of the sinks. In the bathroom, just be sure not to let your rug sit in standing water, but a little moisture won’t hurt.
Thanks, It’s Vintage

Our curated collection of exclusive vintage rugs feature rare designs and luxurious weaves. Include a vintage living room area rug for a refined traditional look, or add one to a farmhouse kitchen where the old-world style of the rug brings in a warm and rustic aesthetic.
In a bedroom, vintage area rugs make the space feel intimate and cozy. Try pairing it with soft, light linens, handmade baskets and woven decor products. A natural wooden piece like our Hazelnut hued Salome bed mixed with our antiqued brass sconces add traditional character and elevated style.
Layering area rugs for a living room adds a warm, textured element, making it feel well-loved and lived-in, while still looking thoughtfully curated. Always find rugs with a similar color palette, so that the tones complement each other without feeling too chaotic or busy.
If you want a cozy, bohemian feel, start by layering a larger jute rug as a base and then add a smaller Moroccan rug or vintage rug on top for warmth and visual interest. Smaller sheepskin area rugs are also great for layering, and they offer a soft touch for added texture and comfort. If you like a more minimalist look, choose neutrally hued throw rugs for your living room with different textures, which gives dimension to a space without overwhelming with too much color and pattern.
Modern Persian Rugs
Featuring traditionally inspired designs, Persian rugs add vintage appeal to a room. Classic styles often have deep hues like burgundy, gold and navy, adding warmth and richness to any space. More modern designs feature bold and fresh tones for a punchy pop of color in a light, white space. Add a Persian rug as the anchor in a baby’s nursery. It will instantly add an elevated and antiqued look, especially when styled with with natural wood furniture pieces and brass accessories.
Hand-knotted area rugs are crafted by skilled artisans who tie each knot by hand. They are constructed from high quality materials like wool and silk, making them incredibly durable and long-lasting. This labor intensive process can take months and often years to complete, making each rug incredibly special and unique. Because of this, these distinctive rugs are meant to be heirlooms and are passed down through generations.
