Styling Series: Holiday Decorating Tips

11/20/2019

Happy Holidays! Kelley here, the resident Stylist at Lulu and Georgia. Our Holiday Checklist launched earlier this month and we thought it might be helpful for me to share my tips for effortless holiday decor this season. A few garlands of evergreens, a colorful wreath in the window, or an arrangement of simple votives flickering on the mantel can create an abundance of cheer. Here are some quick and easy ways to make your home festive.

I love to greet guests with a festive entry but you don’t need to overdo it. I love a simple wreath, a cute doormat situation, and something vintage.

This year, we opted for an indoor/outdoor rug instead of a doormat for something fresh and different. If you want a layered look or need to cover more space, we added a neutral indoor/outdoor rug underneath.

2. Go Big in the Living Room

The living room is where all of the holiday magic happens. This is where I like to go the biggest with decor. That being said, keep the tree simple - with neutral ornaments and organic elements. We added dried orange slices and I love the way the light shines through them.

Garlands are your friend. Add them wherever you feel compelled to.

The mantle doesn’t have to be complicated. A line-up of vintage-inspired candlesticks is pretty and simple.

Make your everyday decor work for you. Add greenery to a bowl, swap in red candlesticks for white, add a cozy throw. These items will be in your home long after the holidays are over.

3. Deck the Halls in the Dining Room

Trees aren’t just for the living room! Try one in the dining room, too.

Skip the elaborate centerpiece that no one can see over and go for layered candles. I like simple place settings - allow the food on the table to shine!

No bar cart? No problem, make your sideboard do double duty.

4.Get Guest Ready

In the winter - I live by two words: Layers and Textures. Add a mix of throws and pillows. Your guests will appreciate the coziness you’ve created. I also love to incorporate greenery and a nice candle.

For the practical side of the guest room: Leave a place for luggage, add a phone charger, and extra toiletries your guests might have forgotten.

Extra credit: Add a garland around the bed frame for a festive touch.
