Standard rug sizes solve most rooms — but not all of them. A long narrow hallway, an unusually proportioned dining room, a staircase runner that doesn't match a standard cut length: these are spaces where a custom-sized rug is the right answer, not a compromise with whatever standard size fits closest. At Lulu and Georgia, the custom size rugs collection brings together area rugs available in made-to-order dimensions, allowing you to specify the exact size your space requires rather than adjusting the furniture to fit the rug.
What custom size rugs does Lulu and Georgia carry?
The collection includes flatweave and pile rugs available in non-standard and custom dimensions, stair runners available in custom lengths, indoor/outdoor rugs in made-to-order sizes, and select natural fiber rugs (jute, sisal, seagrass) available in custom cuts. Available size ranges and minimum dimensions vary by style and are noted on each product page. Most custom rugs require 4-8 weeks for production; lead times are confirmed at checkout.
How do I determine the right custom rug size for my room?
For a living room, the rug should be large enough for all front legs of the major furniture pieces (sofa and chairs) to rest on it — typically 8×10 or 9×12 for a standard living room, with custom sizes needed when the furniture arrangement is unusually long or wide. For a dining room, the rug should extend at least 24 inches beyond each side of the table so chairs remain on the rug when pulled out. For hallways, measure the full length and subtract 6-12 inches at each end to leave visible floor at the threshold and room end.
Are custom rugs returnable?
Custom made-to-order rugs are generally not returnable, as they are produced specifically to the dimensions you specify. Review dimensions carefully before ordering and confirm the measurement against the room twice — once with a tape measure and once against a paper or painter's tape outline on the floor. If you are unsure between two sizes, choose the larger: a rug that is slightly too large can be accommodated by adjusting furniture placement; a rug that is too small is harder to work with. Check each product page for specific return policy details before ordering.
