A bench solves rooms that other furniture cannot. At the foot of the bed it provides somewhere to sit while getting dressed; in an entryway it gives purpose to a wall that might otherwise be empty; at a dining table it seats more than a chair while taking less visual weight. At Lulu and Georgia, the bench collection spans upholstered bedroom benches, wood and cane entryway styles, dining and backless benches, and outdoor options in a full range of materials and proportions — each chosen for versatility and the quiet utility of a piece that works hard without demanding attention.
What bench styles does Lulu and Georgia carry?
The collection includes upholstered bedroom and end-of-bed benches, wood and cane entryway benches with and without storage, backless dining benches in wood and upholstered finishes, accent and hallway benches, and outdoor benches in weather-resistant materials. Upholstery spans linen, velvet, bouclé, and performance fabric. Wood finishes range from natural tones to painted options. Many styles are available in multiple sizes.
What size bench works at the foot of a bed?
A bedroom bench should be roughly two-thirds the width of the bed — or up to the full width of the bed frame for a more substantial look. For a king bed (76 inches), a bench between 52 and 72 inches reads as proportional. For a queen (60 inches), 40–55 inches works well. The bench should sit a few inches off the bed’s footboard, leaving easy access for making the bed. Standard bench heights run 17–19 inches.
Can a bench replace dining chairs?
Yes — a dining bench on one or both sides of a table is both practical and visually interesting. It fits more people than the equivalent number of chairs, and the lower profile keeps the table feeling open and airy. A bench works particularly well on the wall side of a dining table, where it can be pushed flush when not in use. Upholstered benches add comfort for longer meals; wood or painted benches offer easier maintenance.
